The Raven

Made with 8" X 10" canvas panel, acrylic paint, cut paper raven images
found on internet, printed with MS Word, cut out and glued on

This was made for a homework assignment for Abstract Art class. The assignment was to find or write a poem, then make an abstract art piece based on it.

The only poem I know well is The Raven, by
E A Poe. It's a very morbid poem about mourning. I then had to figure out how to represent morbidity in paint. Then it occurred to me that Mark Rothko had already done this. He had committed suicide and you can see this morbidity in his later work. I simply had to make a piece based on his work and add the ravens.
